Qualifying for Special Education Services
The first step in qualifying for Special Education services is having your child evaluated. In New York State, children then receive special services as recommended by their school district’s Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE). The specific elements of the child’s individual Education Plan (IEP) are based on the results of their evaluation, with input from previous providers.
Transition from Early Intervention to Jowonio
If your child is turning 3 and transitioning from Early Intervention services, the assigned Service Coordinator will guide your family through the process. Jowonio’s program model is a Special Class Inclusive Setting (SCIS) with four different lengths of day.
Enrolling in Jowonio
For children qualifying for a SCIS, please fill out our INTEREST LIST FORM here. Please note this is an interest list only and does not guarantee placement.
If your child receives special education services (e.g. speech language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and/or Special Education Itinerant teacher (SEIT)), but does NOT qualify for a SCIS program, please complete our non-SCIS interest list form.
