Enrolling with Special Education Services

Qualifying for Special Education Services

The first step in qualifying for Special Education services is having your child evaluated. In New York State, children then receive special services as recommended by their school district’s Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE). The specific elements of the child’s individual Education Plan (IEP) are based on the results of their evaluation, with input from previous providers. Your child’s school district is responsible for seeking service providers and/or special education programs if your child is found eligible.

Transition from Early Intervention to Jowonio

If your child is turning 3 and transitioning from Early Intervention services, the assigned Service Coordinator will guide your family through the process. Jowonio’s program model is a Special Class Inclusive Setting (SCIS) with four different lengths of day.

Enrolling in Jowonio

For children qualifying for a SCIS program, school district personnel please fill out our referral form. Filling out the referral form does not guarantee placement.
