Preschool Programs

Program Overview

Jowonio’s preschool programs provide literacy, math, and social skills curricula aligned with the NYS Core Body of Knowledge, and we implement an assessment process to monitor student progress. Students of all needs and abilities are welcome as we offer SCIS to accommodate everyone. We partner with the Syracuse City School District (SCSD) to provide free tuition (Universal PreK, or UPK) for those in the district, which also provides additional materials for the classroom and a variety of supports for teachers and families.

Who is eligible?

Students aged 3 and 4 are eligible for our preK classrooms. We have a limited number of spaces for 2-year-olds in our single half-day toddler classroom.

How big is the classroom?

Our standard classroom model includes 4-5 adults and 12-16 children. All Jowonio classrooms are inclusive, meaning approximately 40% of the students in each classroom qualify for services through their local school district Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE).

How much does it cost?

With some exceptions, families pay tuition for their children to attend Jowonio. Tuition cost is on a sliding scale based on family income, and also varies depending on the length of the day the child attends.

Eligible students who reside in the Syracuse City School District (SCSD) can attend free of cost, but must attend 5 days per week to qualify.

For those not in the SCSD, some scholarships are available.

Students receiving special education support may also be eligible for tuition coverage.
